Places to visit
S’Alzola Bed & Breakfast boasts an excellent position for travel by car. Within a few minutes it is possible to arrive at Porto Rotondo, Olbia or Golfo Aranci, while in approximately half an hour you may reach Porto Cervo.
Olbia
The happy city, as the Greeks called it, Olbia is known around the world for its location near the Emerald Coast. It is a modern city full of life. Set in a large natural Gulf marked by the beautiful islands of Tavolara and Molara, it is also the site of the Emerald Coast airport, an international crossroads for the many visitors interested in the northeastern section of Sardinia. There are many noteworthy beaches, including those of the Lido of Pittulongu, north of Olbia: the Playa, Mare e Rocce, the Squalo, the Pellicano, and Nodu Pianu.
Porto Rotondo
Just minutes from Olbia, along the SS 125, rises Porto Rotondo, on the northern side of the promontory of Punta Volpe. Rather than being a true town, it is a planned tourism settlement, built from nothing in the golden years of the great development of the Emerald Coast. The buildings, dating back to 1963, cluster around the indispensable circular tourist port (for which the town is named). They were designed to merge as well as possible with the surrounding environment. The result is pleasant, successfully making this region a prestigious destination.
Along the wharfs and in the little round plaza of San Marco are many shops with famous designer brands. A stairway reaches the church of San Lorenzo, designed by Andrea Cascella, in exposed granite. The construction of the small open air theatre in granite dates back to 1995; in summer it is the site of prestigious performances and cultural events. It is pleasant to take an excursion toward Punta Volpe, which separates the Gulf of Marinella from the Gulf of Cugnana, with many beaches, including Ira and the small cays of Punta Asfodelo. From each of these and the coastal roads, you may enjoy breathtaking panoramas of the sea and the mountains of the Gallura.
Porto Cervo
Porto Cervo is an attractive location, with characteristic architecture and sublime in its style. Its visitors cross through alleys, porticoes and stairways that converge in its famous Piazzetta, facing the bay and connected by a wooden bridge to the Porto Vecchio, crowded in high season by luxury yachts and sailboats. North of the bay is Porto Cervo Marina, the large new tourist port, interesting for boating fans. It is overlooked by unique architecture, including a Tower in granite and basalt and the Emerald Coast Yacht Club. In a panoramic location is the lovely renowned church of Stella Maris. Customarily the site of classical music concerts, the church is considered an architectural symbol of the Coast, expressing the truest spirit of Mediterranean art. Porto Cervo, furthermore, is known throughout the world for its sophistication, with the presence of many initiatives in fashion, cinema, entertainment and sports. In the center, it is also possible to stroll among the many esthetic centers and high fashion boutiques. In the evening, various exclusive nightspots host the most famous personalities of entertainment and fashion every year from every part of the world.
Golfo Aranci
According to the legend, the name Golfo Aranci came from the shipwreck of a freighter full of oranges, while more authoritative sources connect the name with the word "ranci," which means crabs in the local idiom. The little city, today with approximately 2000 inhabitants, has established itself over the years as a well-equipped tourism center, enchanting tourists with the beauty of the Gulf and its imposing promontory "Capo Figari." From Golfo Aranci to Olbia, the coastline is low and regular, characterized by small coves and beaches of the finest white sand, mostly equipped for tourism: in the territory there are a good 24 beaches of different sizes, with easy access, some of which are located in the center of town. The most beautiful among them include Cala Moresca, Cala Greca, Baja Caddinas, the Spiaggia Bianca and Sos Aranzos.
